HISTORY

Constructed around 1895, The Inn on Whitworth is now a Mississippi B&B, but its origin was the Cohn Brothers Mercantile Store, McGrath’s Department store, The JUNGLE and Progressive Men’s Shop.  The century old walk in vault room still remains to this day.

The main building is 12,000 sq feet, consisting of two floors.  The renovation took place in April of 2011 and lasted eight months.  Mathis Construction was the general contractor with Dr. Kim Sessums acting as design consultant.

The members of the group that had the vision for The Inn on Whitworth are John E Lynch, Jeff Doremus, Steve Mills, Richard Rushing and Shannon Patterson.  All members contribute to the success of the enterprise.

The building is located in the Downtown Historic District of Brookhaven and remains an anchor building.  The front façade is a well-known Mesker & Brother metal front out of St. Louis, MO.

The second floor consists of seven fully furnished one-bedroom apartments that include flat screen TVs, walk in tiled showers and kitchens.  All utilities are included for one monthly rental rate.

The first floor consists of seven luxury style suites for daily use.  Our own laundry service and light breakfast is included.  Nowhere else in the area can you stay in such a nice hotel or bed & breakfast.

Our motto is Where Art and Architecture meet Southern Hospitality.  Come see us!
