The Inn on Whitworth
Originally a mercantile store built in the 1880’s, the historic building of The Inn on Whitworth now serves as a unique boutique hotel in downtown Brookhaven, Mississippi.
With fourteen luxurious rooms featuring original artwork, fourteen-foot ceilings, and custom bedding and furnishings, guests will enjoy relaxing within the intimate environment of personalized rooms. Along with their private rooms, guests continue to enjoy our beautiful lobby, abounding in natural light and a community-minded atmosphere. The lobby’s original 19th century skylight towering thirty-feet above along with its original heart pine wood floors pair distinctly with contemporary furnishings and an ever-present supply of homemade treats from our hospitable Inn-Keeper. The Inn on Whitworth is not just a place to stay; it’s a uniquely relaxing and cultural experience within the heart of a small town in south Mississippi.
Each morning you have your choice of hot and cold breakfast items, premium coffees, fruit juices, or hot tea. The large lobby area gives you ample room to have a relaxed breakfast while enjoying the morning news on the television or simply enjoying the view of the passers-by on the sidewalk. You can enjoy the large trees inside that are placed under the beautiful large skylight. There is just no better spot downtown to relax with your first coffee than in our beautiful lobby.
The boutique hotel atmosphere allows you a personal service that you just can’t receive at the typical chain or bargain hotel. Also, Brookhaven’s famous Janie’s Pastry Shop knows our Inn guests and provides you the option of walking two doors down and trying out an assortment of fresh pastries made daily… Just tell Janie that you are staying with us and we will take care of the tab.
Where Art and Architecture meet Southern Hospitality. Constructed around 1895, The Inn on Whitworth is now a Mississippi B&B, but its origin was the Cohn Brothers Mercantile Store, McGrath’s Department store, The JUNGLE and Progressive Men’s Shop. The century old walk in vault room still remains to this day. The main building is 12,000 sq feet, consisting of two floors.
The renovation took place in April of 2011 and lasted eight months. Mathis Construction was the general contractor with Dr. Kim Sessums acting as design consultant. The members of the group that had the vision for The Inn on Whitworth are John E Lynch, Jeff Doremus, Steve Mills, Richard Rushing and Shannon Patterson. All members contribute to the success of the enterprise. The building is located in the Downtown Historic District of Brookhaven and remains an anchor building.
